8/28/2023 0 Comments Harmony house lagrange gaI would probably average we receive four or five crisis calls a day.ĭomestic violence does not discriminate. That does not include about 800 crisis calls. Outreach also carries about 100 to 150 cases a year.īetween Harmony House and the outreach program I would say an estimated 500 individuals come in direct contact with us faceto- face every year. They might just need support to stay safe. We started the outreach program for people that have come to the shelter, left, and just need that continued support. The average shelter will house 100 to 120 individuals a year. We provide emergency shelter, crisis intervention, education, and advocacy for adults and children who are victims of domestic violence, raise awareness in the community through education and advocacy, and provide assistance through personal education and training to help victims break the cycle of domestic violence and regain control of their lives. Every 2 minutes, someone is sexually assaulted. 1 out of 3 teens report being abused by a dating partner. 1 out of 4 women will experience domestic violence. We serve all equally regardless of age, race, religious belief, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, or socioeconomic status. How many people does it serve each year? Who is eligible for services?Ī: Harmony House services are available to men, women, and their children who have experienced or who are experiencing domestic abuse. Q: Give me a little bit of a background on Harmony House… what it does for this community. We’ve cleared approximately 120 thousand dollars over the last three years. The importance of any fundraiser is that the money raised from the Dragon Boat Race is used to leverage other grants so when other foundations or other states or Federal money is saying “does your own community support you?” I can say “they most certainly do.” This is a fundraiser for Harmony House which allows them to be able to provide the resources and services they offer. So, I’d say one of the biggest challenges in the event is having so much fun team building and so much excitement throughout the festivities, that we stay true to the real cause remembering that this is a fundraiser to help support families touched by domestic violence. Children grow up in it so chances are most people that participated in the Dragon Boat Race either know of someone or grew up experiencing domestic violence. 1 out 4 women and 1 out of 8 men are impacted by domestic violence. Q: What would you say is the biggest challenge for you during the Dragon Boat Race?Ī: Domestic violence is such a serious topic. Troup County News interviewed Michelle Beddingfield of Harmony House LaGrange about the recent Dragon Boat Race and the organization’s mission.
